Carbon Farming Outreach Project
The Australian Government is developing a net zero plan, outlining how the agricultural sector can transition to net zero by 2050. The Carbon Farming Outreach program is designed by Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) to provide landholders with information and support to help them reduce emissions on farms.
Facey Group will run workshops designed to inform landholders about carbon farming, including how reducing emissions in their operations can help reduce their carbon footprint and benefit their business. The workshops will discuss carbon accounting, tools, and calculators to estimate carbon footprints and give an overview of the Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) Scheme. They will delve into a variety of carbon farming practices such as cover cropping, no-till farming, agroforestry, organic farming, and improved grazing and management.
Beyond carbon sequestration, the program aims to assist farmers in improving soil health, increasing biodiversity, enhancing water retention, and boosting productivity and resilience on-farm. It also involves collaborations between landholders and agricultural organisations, research institutions, government agencies, and environmental groups to provide comprehensive support and maximise impact.
Overall, the Carbon Farming Outreach Program is designed to help landholders contribute to climate change mitigation while enhancing their lands’ sustainability and productivity.
