Pasture Trial Network, Sub-Clover Variety Trial

Evaluating Sub-Clover Performance:

This project aims to assess the yield and ground cover persistence of sub-clover varieties through Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting, and Improvement (MERIT) testing.

Project Summary:

Over the next three years, MERIT testing will evaluate the performance of sub-clover varieties in the Great Southern region of WA. The results will be available for free on the MLA PTN eTool.

Project Background:

The Pasture Trial Network (PTN) supports producers in making informed sowing decisions regarding their grazing forage needs through robust localised trials across temperate Australia, funded through partnerships with Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA), Dairy Australia, and seed companies to facilitate improved productivity of the national temperate feed base.

Using a series of established industry-backed protocols supported by scientifically rigour processes, the PTN evaluates various forage species via a network of sites with data dating back ten years across WA, SA, VIC, NSW, QLD, and TAS via the free-to-access MLA PTN eTool. The industry-reviewed data supports the determination of the seasonal performance of various varieties to aid producers, agronomists, consultants, and other engaged parties in making informed forage sowing and utilisation decisions.

This site contributes to meeting the strategic need to expand the species and regions for which PTN currently offers data within WA.
