Extension & Adoption Bursary Program for Tertiary Students
A call out to students interested in a bursary of up to $8000 for extension and adoption of your proposed or existing research (up to 15 bursaries to be awarded across Western Australian universities).
The bursaries will be funded by the South-West WA Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub (SW WA Hub) through the Australian Government’s Federal Drought Hub (FDF).
You will be undertaking one or more of the below:
• Honours studies
• Master of Science (MSc) (coursework projects) or accelerated MSc
• Work placements (work integrated learning) while studying at post-graduate level
• PhD
Assignments must:
• Focus on extension and/or adoption of drought resilience
• Spend at least 50 per cent of funding on extension and adoption activities (participatory action research, workshops, field days, state or national conferences, local agricultural ecosystem engagement with a WA grower group or similar)
• Spend up to 50 per cent of funding on accommodation and transport or other logistics
• Start no later than 2023 and be completed by June 2024
Minimum expectations:
• You must have the ability to travel to regional WA
• You must be enrolled in an Honours degree or above and remain enrolled for the duration of the funding
• All students will present findings to a combined university forum
• Deliver E&A findings to up to three grower groups
• Deliver a review of outcomes and learnings at an industry forum (for example, GRDC Grains Research Update events, WA Livestock Research Council events etc)
• Students will use communications pathways to extend findings from their research theme
(for example, podcasts, social media posts)
• Students will be expected to write a final report outlining their activities and lessons learned.
• There may be an opportunity to present at the 2023 Future Drought Fund Science to Practice Forum.
• Student submissions / work experience will have a connection to a grower group, a funded

• Submit a short (~one-page) Expression of Interest (EOI) outlining
o Your proposed or existing research theme
o How it matches a SW WA Hub priority project or engages a grower group
o A brief extension and adoption activity plan and budget
• Submit to swwadroughthub@gga.org.au by 15 December 2022

• Communications protocols will be advised to successful applicants
• All IP generated from this bursary will be expected to be shared with the SW WA Hub for use
in promotions, Hub reports, social media etc
